I scored this sweet Ibanez RG550 from Reverb recently. I wanted one like my brothers that I used to play live years ago. This one popped up and it shows me again that Ibanez really made the best guitars for the time. Also played is the Mark Tremonti PRS MT15. Best studio Mic??? No... It's my favorite dynamic mic for music ... It's better than a condenser for an untreated room... That's for sure. Not even close to the best studio mic It's not even the most diverse studio mic.

    What matters on a guitar is not really how bright/scooped it is. Thats like buying a car based on the tires that come with it. If you played a little closer to the soundhole that would be be snoothed right out. If you changed the picked, more still. If you swapped for some darker strings, suddenly its rich and deep. No, you want to look for clarity, sustain, resonance and projection. And then foryourself, playability and quality of hardware. This guitar ticks all that. Price? Oberpriced like everything so I supposed decent.

    if for some crazy reason you wanted to swap the pickups, P90-style pickups "should" pretty much drop right in, they're "usually" the same size as FilterTrons. YMMV...

    I have the JB200C and it also has a brighter sound (skanky as you call it LoL) but I love it! it cuts through! If your not a fan of that, you can always EQ to thicken it up if you like.

    I missed out on the PM (I’m not going to pay $500+ for one on ebay) but I did find one of these used at GC for about half the cost they originally retailed for. The downside they are not had the pedal, no sticker came with it. Cool review, keep on keepin on \m:

  • @olenfersoi8887
    @olenfersoi8887 2 місяці тому

    Sorry, but I think you are being a bit of a snob, because you've probably spent hundreds to thousands of dollars on pedals and PockRock costs the same as a moderate dinner out. Considering that it enables you to adjust the gain, speed & depth of every effect, and save your own custom preset combinations of effects (ie: IR Cabs), you can duplicate damn near any effect you can get from pedals costs 5 times as much. About the only things missing are Tri-chorus, octave up/down, looping capabilities & a full equalizer (or mid-boost/bass cut), etc. But, what do you expect for under $50? You can't review & then bash a device by blasting effect at full bore, when they should be modifying the clear tones, not totally overpowering them, unless you are a total "metal head". Alternative device (about the same price) is the Lekato PA-1 preamp, Which has similar capabilities, plus the ability to import other persons preset IR Cabs, but no drum machine; and it has a standard tuner...whereas the PockRock has the ability to tune anything (Drop C or D, etc). Similar capabilities & price in a programmable single foot pedal can be had via Temu-com in the M-Vave pedal.,

    The best thing you can do is buy second hand, like I did: I got it cheaper and the previous owner did all the necessary setup 😂 (he even got the nut addressed for heavier strings by a luthier, which I liked). But I think they are easier to get in Europe.

    Once you've spent time with this pickup(I bought them to put in guitars), you learn it can do pretty much any genre and sound great, Very responsive to the volume knob, coil splits nicely, will do whatever sound you want. It's everything a Duncan JB should have been and more, still my favourite pickup and I've got a bloody lot of them haha, can't help but swap pickups out that I think don't sound good enough(the Becker replaced a temp Bill Lawrence Bill and Becky model L500XL I had in the bridge because I gave away the EMG80/81 set the guitar came with to a friend, even on 18v they just weren't 'it' for me, and the Becker pickup, with it's much lower output than, y'know, Dime's original pickup before the much worse Dimebucker, just threw out harmonics like it was nothing). I still love my L500XL, it's in another guitar now and I still have the signed photo of Bill with a thank you from Bill and Becky written on the back. Was hand made from the USA so took a while to get to me over in the UK when I ordered it well over a decade...maybe two decades ago. It's still also one of my favourite pickups, along with a bunch of Iron Gear pickups because I now have a lot of them since they're so damn cheap but sound better than most of the 'big brand' pickups. Their take on certain big brand pickups or pickup sets sound better than what they're making a version of but still have the right sound, and are still super affordable (like £30 a pickup ish). Even their super high gain Metal Machine, I think the output is in the 20somethingK range will clean up beautifully, is very rich, and you can hear absolutely every note even in a high gain modern metal style sound if you wanna go for a complex chord suddenly. A set of those went into a PRS and my god is that thing a monster of a guitar when you want it to be now. Not affiliated with Iron Gear, they just make amazing pickups. I put their version of Fenders Texas Specials into a strat and they have the right sound only, better, cheap, very well made and not some made in China stuff you'd expect for the price that sounds like garbage. They called them the Texas Loco set. The only pickups I haven't changed, although I was tempted, was the ones in my Squire Tele Classic Vibe 70s. Their set retains the tele sound but they've got a version that is a tapped single coil, pull out the volume pot and you get double the output...they sound great, their tele set sounds great, but the set made for the Classic Vibe 70s has a certain sound about it that I just can't change...although I did put a Fender American bridge with brass saddles on it. Those are great guitars for the money, sounds like a 70s tele...what more could I want without spending an insane amount on a Fender Tele from the 70s

    Have one in green blast. The pick ip screws were also poorly installed and the slots were stripped. Plus the pickups were sitting very tilted. I took thr scratch plate off and the cavity underneath was very unevenly routed including several big chunks of wood left in place. I'm not keen on the fretboard material, it looks a bit grubby. However it plays and sounds good. I replaced the nut with a Graphtec version and have made an oxidised aluminum custom pickguard for it because the plastic one was cheap and flimsy. We are lucky in Europe that Thomann do free shipping on everything over 200 Euros.

    What you have is NOT a grounding issue and NOT a quality control issue. Non wax potted filtertron pickups are microphonic, and microphonic pickups produce that effect.

    i owned several guitars before and this is what i observed,.... some guitars are good for plucking but not much with strumming, so bright..... some guitars are good in strumming on the other hand but not with plucking...... some guitars sounds great depending on atring size, like if its dreadnaught, extra light string is good but heavy string will cause the sound muddy..... i think laminated is good for either plucking or strumming.

    Per Taylor luthier “ the worst a Koa guitar will ever sound is the day it was made”, so play, play, play it. Heavy strum will just let it’s voice out quicker. I’ve got a 222ce- k DLX coming via ups. Can’t wait.
